MARC RIBOT Quartet feat Nick Dunston, Chad Taylor, Jay Rodriguez

This new quartet unites old friends…drummer Chad Taylor and guitarist Marc Ribot have toured together for over 12 years in Spiritual Unity, and the Ribot/Grimes/Taylor Trio; Ribot and Jay Rodriguez (sax, flute) have jammed in various ensembles since the early 90’s, when Ribot sat in with Jay’s legendary Groove Collective sessions). New to the scene is bassist Nick Dunston, who Ribot actually met in 2018 when Nick attended a seminar he was teaching at NYC’s The New School. After, Ribot invited Nick on a gig and was blown away by his range and imagination.

During a recent European tour to promote Marc’s latest multi-artist release, Songs Of Resistance (Anti-, 2018), Ribot realized that this quartet had the potential to be an ongoing project, and is looking forward to recording new material. “The level of musicianship with Chad, Jay, and Nick is just so high…I realized this is the group to continue the exploration we began with Spiritual Unity (the Albert Ayler influenced project featuring legendary bassist Henry Grimes, Chad Taylor, and the late Roy Campbell Jr.), and to check out some compositions I have been quietly working on for a while.”

Nick Dunston is a rising star already having worked with the likes of Vijay Ayer and Tyshawn Sorey.
Marc Ribot has been described by Rolling Stones as the “go-to guitar guy” for Tom Waits, John Zorn, T-Bone Burnett, etc etc.
Jay Rodriguez is a Grammy nominated artist with an impressive discography with appearances ranging from Elvis Costello to Stevie Wonder, and is a founding member of Groove Collective.
Chad Taylor is a co-founder of the Chicago Underground ensembles.
