Lublin Jazz: GrandMotherJazz

Another concert within the Lublin Jazz series, in which we present the most interesting phenomena in contemporary jazz and improvised music at the Cultural Center in Lublin.

GrandMotherJazz is a band founded in 2022 playing jazz interpretations of traditional, polish folk music. The basis for their work is the oral transmission of texts and melodies – which have never been written down and survived in the memory of the last village musicians. What enriches traditional motifs is the jazz approach to creating music and the need to express emotions through instrumental improvisations. All this is set in the interpenetrating rhythms of jazz and traditional music. It turns out that these musically different worlds are not as distant from each other as they might seem. The combination of two paths results in spontaneous, but also lyrical songs that fit into the folk music trend.

The band’s stage debut took place at the Mikołajki Folkowe festival in Lublin in 2022. During their premiere concert, they won the first prize in the Open Stage Competition.

The band consists of:

Saxophones and vocals – Ewelina Prokopiuk
Piano – Mikołaj Kołodziejczyk
Double bass – Mateusz Zielony
Drums – Maciej Guzik
