Lublin Jazz: ENTASIS (Sakata/Di Domenico/Damianidis/Škorić) (JP/IT/GR/RS)

Another concert within the Lublin Jazz series, in which we present the most interesting phenomena in contemporary jazz at the Cultural Center in Lublin.

This time, the Lublin audience will have a unique opportunity to listen live to ENTASIS – an international free jazz quartet consisting of Akira Sakata, Giovanni Di Domenico, Giotis Damianidis and Aleksandar Škorić, who replaces former band member Christos Yermenoglou, who died in January 2022. In May 2019, the group released their first album, Hōryū-ji.

Hōryū-ji, or “Temple of the Flourishing Science of Law”, is one of the seven most powerful large Buddhist Temples in Japan. Hōryū-ji has Entasis, which in architecture is the application of a convex curve to a surface for aesthetic purposes. He also has an engineering role in strength, a key word in the collaboration that brought together Sakata, Škorić, Di Domenico and Damianidis.

Saxophonist and clarinetist Akira Sakata is a widely known figure in Japanese free jazz. In the 1970s, he was a member of the pianist Yosuke Yamashita Trio. Later he cooperated with, among others, from Bill Laswell’s Last Exit, with Peter Cosey, DJ Krush, Jim O’Rourke and many others.

Akira Sakata – alto saxophone, clarinet, vocals, bells
Giotis Damianidis – electric guitar
Giovanni Di Domenico – piano
Aleksandar Škorić – drums, percussion
