7 Lublin Jazz Festival / (Premiere!) Paul Lovens – Gerard Lebik – John Edwards Trio (DE/PL/GB)

International project initiated by polish saxophone player Gerard Lebik alludes to European Free Improvisation music and to Free Jazz music also. Cooperation of musicians from Germany, England and Poland is characterized by extraordinary music narration based on collective free improvisation, which explores both areas of diatonic music and also novel approach into world of sonority using extended techniques of playing acoustic instruments.

Paul Lovens – percussionist, author of innovative techniques of playing drums which is about to use classic idiophones and membranophones in unconventional way matching them with different kinds of unclassifiable sound objects. Original approach to creating sound situates Lovens in the small group leading in creating avant-garde music, which changed history of improvised music. In the early 1970s he was part of a trio with pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach and also Globe Unity Orchestra. Since then he has played with musicians such as Cecil Taylor, Harri Sjöström, Günther Christmann, Eugene Chadbourne, Toshinori Kondo, Alan Silva, Evan Parker, Rudi Mahall, Aki Takase, Peter Brötzmann, Teppo Hauta-Aho, Mats Gustafsson, Thomas Lehn, Phil Wachsmann, and Joëlle Léandre. He recorded tens of CD’s for such recording companies: : FMP hatOLOGY, Okka Disk, Intakt Records.

John Edwards – one of the most proactive musicians in London. In the years 1990-1995 he was a member of many groups: B-Shops For The Poor, The Honkies and GOD. Since 1995 John Edwards has become a “mainstay” of the London scene, playing with just about everybody, an activity that has seen him clocking up between 150 and 200 gigs a year. He has become regular player with Evan Parker, in many groupings, and with Tony Bevan, Veryan Weston, Elton Dean or Mark Sanders. He has become a more frequent player on the European (and festival) scene, appearing at Taktlos, Ulrichsburg, Nickelsdorf, Budapest, New Zealand and in the USA.

Gerard Lebik – saxophone player, sound artist living Wroclaw/Poland. Works with improvised, experimental and intermedia music. He’s the author of sound installations and sound interventions in public space. Creates music and sound either by improvisation, musical notation or through directly manipulation of sonic material using electro and acoustic media. Explores the audible phenomena field through various tools and techniques: saxophones, zopan wave generators, air compressors, VHS recorders, video objects, electronics, analog video feedback, software. In 2007 he graduated Wroclaw Academy of Music. Performed with: Phil Minton, David Maranha, Eryck Abecassis, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Keith Rowe, Clayton Thomas, Satoko Fuji.
