7 Lublin Jazz Festival / Mazzoll plays solo: one sound and improsongs on bass clarinet

The festival also wish to draw attention to the individual creativity of jazz musicians in Poland.

Jerzy “Mazzoll” Mazolewski  is a bass clarinet virtuoso who reaches deep into the traditions of Polish improvisers and makers of the contemporary mid-twentieth century. He was one of the initiators of the so-called yass revolution in Polish jazz, but distanced himself from this trend by creating the idea of A rhythmic perfection and became concentrated on the European aspect of improvisation in art. At the beginning of the 90s he met Derek Bailey and on his personal invitation went to London for the legendary festival company week. His first album “Perplex” was produced by Tony Oxley. Mazzoll also collaborated with the Django Bates’ orchestra and Peter Brotzman’s quartet. He has released a series of albums “Diffusion Ensemble”, improvising on stage with artists from various fields of art. During this practice he met Peter Kowald and Olga Szwajgier and together with them led workshops that have influenced a whole generation of musicians. He is the creator of Art Depot Festival which deals with the nature of improvisation in different cultures. He has published 12 albums that changed the face of Polish improvised music. The years 2012 and 2013 mark his return to the publishing market, with release of his subsequent records: “Minimalover”, “Jeden dźwięk” and ” Pan Bóg oraz oczekiwana”, “Responsio Mortifer” and the surprising “Rite of Spring Variation” recorded in a duet with Tomasz Sroczyński.
