Lublin Jazz Festival

Initiated in London by Justin McKenzie and Adam Moses, Jazz re:freshed is a music movement and label of contemporary jazz. The motivation behind the project was to challenge the elitism and prejudice in the jazz community, which has kept jazz on the sidelines for too long, in the illusion of inaccessibility to a wider audience of musicians and audiences. The movement brings people to the incredibly diverse, colourful, expressive and creative world of jazz. Since 2003, Jazz re:freshed has been searching, promoting, publishing and representing musicians who deserve the widest possible recognition. The Lublin Jazz Festival is the first in Poland to tighten cooperation with Jazz re:freshed as part of its original series to bring the audiences closer to the latest and most interesting jazz projects from the British music scene. It is also an opportunity to meet Polish, especially young artists, with British artists – maybe it will be the beginning of interesting musical connections? The event initiating the cooperation will be a concert of the Richard Spaven Trio feat. Tendayi.

Richard Spaven is one of the UK’s most talented drummers with roots in British clubs and hip-hop scenes. The artist brings a fresh approach to the instrument that is modern and traditional at the same time. Drumming, combining machine precision with jazz-inspired improvisational sensibilities, has earned Richard Spaven performances with a wide variety of artists, including the late hip-hop guru Gang Starr, producer Flying Lotus, electro-jazz group The Cinematic Orchestra, and José James and Brainfeeder Jameszoo . Spaven’s brilliance extends beyond his world-class performance skills – he is equally impressive in the areas of production and composition. The drummer invited recognized artists of the young generation from Great Britain to join his original trio. The performance during the Lublin Jazz Festival is their only concert in Poland.
