Lublin Jazz presents: Hajstra Trio (Zosia Ilnicka / Paweł Doskocz / Vasco Trilla)

Lublin Jazz presents Hajstra Trio’s concert as an intense, unpredictable journey through the world of free improvisation, where every sound becomes an echo of the present moment.

Hajstra Trio

The ensemble was formed as a duo by Paweł and Vasco, who played their first concert together in 2017. Since then, their collaboration has developed in a natural and dynamic way. In 2018, they went on tour and recorded material for an album released the following year by Antena No Grata. In 2023, Zofia Ilnicka joined the group, bringing her own musical language, which perfectly complemented the project’s concept. The trio’s music grows out of a deep understanding of their instruments and the freedom of improvisation. The musicians respond to one another instantly, creating rich, expressive soundscapes in which every nuance matters. The sounds they shape gradually detach from their original meanings and transform into multilayered, immersive narratives. Their music draws from a wide range of aesthetics: from free improvisation and drones to ambient structures. In February 2026, the album In the no-time will be released in collaboration between Canada’s Tour de Bras and France’s Circum-Disc. To mark the occasion, the band is setting off on an old-school promotional tour.

Zofia Ilnicka is a flutist, composer, and improviser active at the intersection of contemporary, improvised, and experimental music. She graduated from the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz in 2016. For years, she has been closely connected to the new music scene, boldly exploring extended performance techniques and unconventional sounds. She co-creates projects such as Trio_io, DEAE, Layers, Space Welders, Brzoska Collective, and the Kraków Improvisers Orchestra. She regularly collaborates with composers, consulting on their works and participating in premieres. Her inspirations include Brian Ferneyhough, Dominik Karski, and Steve Reich. She has performed with the Landjugendorchester NRW, the Pomeranian Philharmonic, and the Toruń Symphony Orchestra.

Paweł Doskocz is a guitarist working primarily in the field of improvised and experimental music. In his practice, he frequently employs extended techniques and instrument preparation, seeking new sonic possibilities. Drawing inspiration from a broad spectrum of aesthetics, he has developed a distinctive and constantly evolving musical language. He co-founded the bands Bachorze and Strętwa and has collaborated with numerous artists from Poland and abroad. He has performed at many festivals dedicated to improvised and experimental music, including Ad Libitum, Nowy Wiek Awangardy, Art of Improvisation Creative Festival, Jazz Ring, Musica Privata, Katowice JazzArt Festival, FRIV Festival, Avant Art Festival, and the Spontaneous Music Festival. Currently, he is active in several projects, including a trio with Emilio Gordoa and Matthias Müller, Hajstra (with Zofia Ilnicka and Vasco Trilla), a duo with Benedict Taylor, and the trio Sumpf (with Piotr Tkacz and Patryk Daszkiewicz).

Vasco Trilla is a drummer and percussionist based in Barcelona, recognized as one of the most creative and original musicians on the contemporary experimental scene. His approach to the instrument—often described as “free sound”—combines precision, imagination, and a constant search for new timbres. Trilla constructs multidimensional sonic narratives, using a wide array of objects and techniques, which has earned him the reputation of a “watchmaker and alchemist of percussion.” His concerts are intense, sonoristic experiences in which improvisation becomes a space for emotion, physicality, and unconventional sound structures. He has collaborated with many acclaimed artists, including Mars Williams, Peter Evans, Rodrigo Amado, Marshall Allen, Martin Küchen, Tom Chant, David Stackenäs, Mikołaj Trzaska, Susana Santos Silva, Kaja Draksler, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and Andrea Centazzo, further strengthening his position on the international improvised music scene.
